Australian Documentary featuring three journeys of the many undertaken by Denis Bartell OAM into the Australian Outback.
Denis was honoured with the Australian Geographic Adventurer of the Year Award 1994 Gold Medallion. Channel 9 A Current Affair presented the story behind the Award.
Guided by Denis Bartell, his daughter Susan and three of her closest friends set out to walk across the Simpson Desert just as her father had done 22 years before. This is their journey as recorded for Global BC News Canada. Through the highs and the painful lows these four ordinary Australian mums always remained focused and at the end of their journey their effort had raised well over $130,000 for breast cancer research.
Denis leads Danny Colson, the aboriginal son of Ted Colson, the first white man to make this crossing from east to west across the Simpson Desert and back again. Noel Fullerton lent them four of his best camels and they set off following the route Danny's father had taken in 1936 reliving that historic journey. At the same time Denis was privileged to be part of the OPTUS Satellite launch celebrations, using one of the first mobile sat phones which he charged by solar panels carried by one of the pack camels.
