Australian Outback Adventurer: Denis Bartell OAM - Author - Adventurer - Explorer
My name is Denis Bartell. I was born in Adelaide South Australia in 1933 and ultimately attended Kings College now known as Pembroke. Self employed from an early age, I am now retired and living with my wife Jeanne on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
My manuscript, Desert Walker, is a journey from my childhood through to my adult years. It is a true story of my many and varied exploits into the Australian Outback, interspersed with chapters of my personal life.
Australia is a rugged and beautiful land, a veritable adventure playground for explorers and pioneers. As an Australian Outback Adventurer I have been fortunate enough to explore much that this great Country has to offer.
The Press at various times have labelled me a contemporary Australian explorer, one of the quintessential characters of Australia's inland, an Australian adventurer and an outback legend.
Some of my ventures were attempts to break records, others were undertaken to address personal problems, all were to reach higher goals and fulfil long held dreams.
Two of my journeys raised considerable money for worthwhile causes. Desert Walker- Gulf to Gulf was for The Royal Flying Doctor Service ($70,000) and The Desert Mums was for The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) for breast cancer research. (over $170,000)
